Welcome back to Episode 3 of our Northeast Equipment Podcast as we continue our Controversial Christianity series with a powerful and honest conversation about youth sports and the growing pressure kids face in high-achievement environments. From favorite sports movies and a fun debate about what sport Jesus would play, to deeper reflections on identity, performance, and parenting, we dive into how sports culture has shifted and how quickly it can shape both our kids and our own hearts. If you’re a parent navigating travel teams, busy schedules, and rising expectations, this episode is for you; we talk about staying grounded in faith, keeping the important things first, and making sure our kids are being formed by Christ rather than competition. Because while there’s less than a 1% chance your kid goes pro, there’s a 100% chance they’ll stand before God one day; so let’s raise them with that in mind.

In Episode 2 of Controversial Christianity, the team dives into a thoughtful conversation about life in a megachurch. Beka is joined by Tyler and Tomara as they unpack the realities behind the “megachurch” label. They discuss challenging stereotypes, sharing personal stories, and exploring what truly defines a healthy church. From the pull between consumer Christianity and genuine discipleship to the challenges of building authentic community in a large church, this episode offers both honest reflection and practical encouragement. Along the way, they highlight the church’s mission to “Love the Ville,” the importance of engagement beyond Sunday mornings, and the beauty, and complexity, of doing life together in the body of Christ.

The hosts (Becca and Terrance) and guest Tyler kick off Season 4 of the Northeast Equipping Podcast, themed around controversial Christianity. They dive into the week’s topic: singleness.
Tyler explains the church chose this topic because they haven’t taught directly on singleness since 2016 and because the church has more singles and “single agains” than people realize. As he says,
“We have more singles in our church than we would imagine…”
Why Northeast Doesn’t Have a Singles Ministry
Terrence shares from his past as a singles pastor that standalone singles ministries often:
Turn into dating hubs, even unintentionally
Create segmented rooms instead of integrating singles into the whole church
Struggle with age ranges and complex pastoral needs
Distract from the mission of raising up singles into leadership
Instead, the church wants singles fully included in men’s, women’s, and small group ministries.
Can Christians Remarry After Divorce?
They discuss biblical grounds for divorce and remarriage. Tyler summarizes three legitimate reasons a marriage covenant may be broken:
Adultery
Abandonment
Abuse
He emphasizes repentance, grace, and honoring marriage as covenant, not convenience.
How Should a Christian Date Today?
They caution that dating apps can shape people in unhealthy ways—teaching them to commodify others and removing community accountability. Apps aren’t wrong, but Christians should date with boundaries, healing, and intentionality. As Terrance notes:
“There are a lot of unhealed people running into relationships, hurting other people because they’re unhealed.”

It can be hard to see a clear and Godly path forward when you've been hurt in a deep way, especially if it was intentionally. What do you do if you feel betrayed or harmed by someone in the church?
